Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) is a critical initiative undertaken by Child Aid Uganda (CHAU) to address the menstrual health needs of girls and women in Uganda. Recognizing the profound impact of menstrual hygiene on education, health, and dignity, CHAU implements comprehensive programs aimed at promoting menstrual health education, providing sanitary materials, and creating supportive environments for menstruators.
Program Objectives and Activities
CHAU's MHM program focuses on:
- Educating girls and women about menstrual hygiene practices and reproductive health.
- Distributing menstrual hygiene kits comprising sanitary pads, hygiene products, and educational materials.
- Advocating for improved sanitation facilities and access to clean water in schools and communities.
- Conducting workshops and awareness campaigns to reduce stigma and promote menstrual health management.
Impact and Challenges
Since its inception, the MHM program has significantly improved menstrual health awareness and accessibility to sanitary products among girls and women in Lyantonde District and surrounding areas. Challenges include cultural taboos, inadequate infrastructure, and funding constraints, which CHAU addresses through community engagement and partnership initiatives.
